Maritime Week: SG to sign declaration on green shipping

Minister Iswaran said this is part of Singapore’s decarbonisation agenda.

Singapore will be joining 22 other countries in establishing green routes for shipping, Minister for Transport and Minister-in-Charge of Trade Relations, S Iswaran, announced.

In his speech at the opening ceremony of the Maritime Week, Iswaran said Singapore will also sign the UK-led Clydebank Declaration for Green Shipping Corridors as part of its decarbonisation efforts.

The Clydebank Declaration aims to establish green shipping corridors between ports by deploying zero-emission vessel technologies on voyages, or alternative fuel and charging infrastructure in ports.

Apart from the signing of the declaration, Iswaran also announced that the Ministry of Transport and MPA will establish the Maritime International Advisory Panel (IAP).

The panel which will “seek global perspectives on emerging trends and critical developments that will shape the maritime industry,” will be chaired by Isawaran.

Meanwhile, other notable events during the first day of the 2022 Maritime Week include the official launch of the MarineTech Exhibition, the Maritime Software Developers’ Live TV, and the return of the Singapore Maritime Lecture and SMW Leaders’ Perspective.
