Sembcorp Marine completes 10th and final repair project for 2018

Its projects included vessels from Carnival Cruises, Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line.

Sembcorp Marine (Sembmarine) reached the end of its 2018 project line up following the completion of repairs on the Costa Fortuna which is the firm’s 10th and final cruise project for the year, an announcement revealed.

The 1,358-cabin vessel operated by Italian cruise line Costa Crociere joined a line-up of luxury vessels that underwent repairs and upgrades at Sembmarine facilities in the past 12 months, the firm highlighted. These included six vessels from cruise bands and long-term partners Carnival Cruises, Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, as well as one from new customer Norwegian Cruise Line.

“We are very pleased to strengthen our track record in this niche market with 10 more successful projects, and at the time time contribute to Singapore’s progress as a leading cruise hub,” Sembmarine head of repairs & upgrades Alvin Gan said in a statement.

Sembmarine’s 2019 cruise ship repair and upgrade line-up is already filling up with 13 confirmed jobs from companies such as Star Cruises and Star Clippers Monaco, the statement highlighted. The firm will also manage the turnkey upgrade for the Pacific Jewel which is Zen Cruises’ first upmarket cruise liner in India.

The firm has delivered a total of 102 cruise ship refit and upgrade projects over the past decade which averages to about 10 vessels per year. Compared to the 10 projects in 2018, Sembmarine completed 16 cruise ship repairs and upgrades in 2017 and nine in 2016.
