
Retail sales up 8.1% in April
But retailers of furniture and household equipment were not sitting pretty with sales dropping 1.4% compared to April 2010.
The Department of Statistics reported that compared to April 2010, retailers of watches & jewellery recorded a significant sales increase of 29.6% in April 2011.
Retail sales of petrol service stations, wearing apparel & footwear, medical goods & toiletries and department stores recorded double-digit growth of between 10.4% and 16.2% in April 2011.
Meanwhile retail sales of food & beverages, telecommunications apparatus & computers, provision & sundry shops, recreational goods, motor vehicles and supermarkets increased between 1.0% and 9.7%.
