
May retail sales up 10%
Bad news though for retailers of optical goods & books as sales dropped 3.3% compared to May 2010. Meanwhile supermarket sales fell 1.2% in May 2011 over the same period last year.
Compared to May 2010, retailers of watches & jewellery recorded an increase in sales of 25.7% in May 2011. Retail sales of motor vehicles, petrol service stations, telecommunications apparatus & computers and medical goods & toiletries recorded double-digit growth ranging from 11.5% to 16.3% in May 2011.
Retail sales of department stores, food & beverages, wearing apparel & footwear, provision & sundry shops, furniture & household equipment and recreational goods increased between 2.0% and 6.5%.
