Crowds gather as Lucky Plaza, Penninsula Plaza entry restrictions lifted

More people took advantage of eased restrictions to visit the popular shopping centres.

More people can visit Lucky Plaza and Peninsula Plaza, following the lifting of weekend entry restrictions by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Enterprise Singapore (ESG).

And more people did visit, as video and camera footage taken over the weekend showed crowds lining up to get in both establishments over Saturday and Sunday (April 10 and 11).

According to a video report from Channel News Asia, migrant workers seeking to meet each other after months of solitude were among those who crowded the malls' openings.

Lucky Plaza and Peninsula Plaza previously implemented "odd-even" entry restrictions based on the last digit of the identification number of each visitor. This was to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

This restriction reduced the number of composition fines issued to businesses and individuals by 70%, compared to before it was implemented August 29 last year.

They were allowed to lift this restriction after they "demonstrated greater compliance with Safe Management Measures," according to a joint statement from ESG and STB.

Both agencies are working with the malls to ensure strict implementation of these safety measures.
