PM Lee says HDB towns will be of high quality
Housing & Development Board (HDB) houses, towns and estates should be good enough for retirement.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong promises that public housing will be a “valuable nest for your retirement”, he said at the Groundbreaking Event for Chong Pang Integrated Development (CPID) or Chong Pang City.
PM Lee states that the government is striving for HDB houses and estates with modern amenities and living needs.
“We are progressively redeveloping the older precincts to refresh the living environment with new homes and new amenities and infrastructure. And we want every one of our HDB towns, new or old, to be of high quality,” Lee said.
Chong Pang City is one of Singapore’s initiatives to continuously redevelop as a housing centre through the years.

Starting in 1980, HDB flats were built for residents and shopkeepers that were relocated from the kampongs at Chong Pang.
Thus, to preserve the kampong spirit of the old village, Chong Pang City was the first HDB neighbourhood centre in Yishun town.
However popular some towns are over others, PM Lee strives for all HDB towns to be “highly liveable.”
“This is the People's Action Party (PAP) government’s promise to all Singaporeans: that your HDB flat will be both a good home for you and your family and a valuable nest egg for your retirement.”
