Number of HDB’s flats went up by 8.9% in August

HDB released 4,993 flats in August.

The HDB said 4,993 flats were released for August, which is 8.9% higher than the 4,583 flats released in May 2022.

In a statement, One Global Group senior analyst and researcher Mohan Sandrasegeran said Bukit Merah, Ang Mo Kio, and Tampines flats are likely to gain more demand from applicants.

“The Bukit Merah, Ang Mo Kio, and Tampines flats are likely to be very desirable due to their status as mature estates and their proximity to MRT stations which are coveted among homebuyers,” he said.

He also sees intense competition for the Bukit Merah build-to-order projects as those who were not able to apply for the May exercise will choose flats in the area as well.

OrangeTee said, with more than 1,600 prime location public housing under the BTO exercise, there will be more big flats.

The growth in bigger flats will also entice growing demand for homes with larger living spaces.

Non-mature estates

Under non-mature estates choices, Propnex said the “Woodlands South Plains BTO project will offer 630 units and enjoys close proximity to several schools, neighbourhood park, the Vista Point mall, and the upcoming Woodlands Health Campus.” 

“Keat Hong Grange in Choa Chu Kang is the largest BTO project in this exercise, offering 987 units across 2-room Flexi, 3-, 4-, and 5-room flat types. Given the larger number of units, it is probably less competitive and may be easier to land a flat here, compared to the projects in more central locations,” PropNex also said.

More affordable BTO 

Huttons Asia advised buyers to consider Woodlands South Plains for a more affordable option. It added that the BTO’s construction will be completed in 45 months.

“With more allocation to first timers, it offers an attractive option for buyers to secure their first home. It is next to Woodlands South MRT station on the Thomson East Coast line which will bring residents to town faster,” it said.
