Kampung Admiralty a model for public housing: PM Lee

The estate was lauded for merging education, healthcare, and housing policies.

Kampung Admiralty, an integrated housing estate for senior citizens, is considered a model for future public housing, prime minister Lee Hsien Loong said. “It meets a need as our society ages, encouraging the residents and their families to come together to build a community.”

The prime minister noted in his National Day message that the flats for senior citizens have inbuilt features like grab bars and non-slip tiles, whilst the amenities co-located in the estate include a supermarket, a medical centre, a community garden, a childcare centre, and a hawker centre.

A childcare centre at Kampung Admiralty is one of many new centres that the government has opened all over Singapore. A medical centre is also one of the new upcoming community healthcare facilities across the island.

“Here, our education, healthcare, and housing policies come together for the residents in a tangible and holistic way,” the prime minister said. “Kampung Admiralty is an example of what the Government is doing to transform education, healthcare and housing to improve the lives of Singaporeans.”

As a result, HDB will continue to develop other innovative housing concepts, for the young as well as the old, Lee said. Meanwhile, existing estates will be maintained and upgraded.

“Though the leases still have many years to run, we should think ahead about how we can keep older estates in good living condition, and also start to redevelop them, in order to build new homes and towns for future generations,” Lee added.
