Singapore has the highest concentration of  superentrepreneurs: study

There are 4.7 superentrepreneurs per one million inhabitants in Singapore.

Singapore has the highest concentration of superentrepreneurs — individuals who have built up billion-dollar fortunes by creating new companies or growing small businesses into large successful ventures.

Data from the European Centre for Entrepreneurship and Policy Reform (ECEPR) study showed that there are 4.7 superentrepreneurs per one million inhabitants in Singapore.

ECEPR also stated that a 20% increase in Singapore's superentrepreneurs, or 5 to 6 per one million inhabitants, could lead to the creation of 28,000 jobs in the country, resulting in an almost 1% drop in its unemployment.

ECEPR cited Singapore’s status as a global trade hub, excellent schools, low taxes, and high ease of doing business as reasons why the Lion City has more superentrepreneurs per capita.

Other countries with the highest concentration of high-performing entrepreneurs were  Switzerland (4.1), Cyprus (3.6), the USA (3.1), Israel (2.6), Sweden (2.0), Ireland (1.9), Australia (1.8), the UK (1.8), and Canada (1.7).

Klas Tikkanen, Nordic Capital's Chief Operating Officer, said there is a strong link between high-end entrepreneurship and job growth. 

"Countries with high levels of superentrepreneurs per capita also have lower unemployment amongst all social groups, with the broad middle class benefiting the most," Tikkanen said.
