PM Wong to attend ASEAN summits in Laos

This marks his first ASEAN Summit in his role as prime minister.

Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong will lead the Singapore delegation at the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in Vientiane, Lao PDR, from 9 to 12 October. This marks his first ASEAN Summit in his role as prime minister.

The theme for Laos’ Chairmanship, “Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience,” focuses on strengthening ASEAN unity and resilience in response to global challenges. 

Leaders will evaluate community-building efforts and discuss opportunities in emerging sectors, including the digital and green economies. They will also address ASEAN's role in promoting a stable and inclusive regional framework.

During the summits, Wong and fellow leaders will engage in discussions regarding ASEAN's partnerships with global leaders at the 27th ASEAN Plus Three Summit, the 19th East Asia Summit, and meetings with Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United Nations, and the United States.

After the summits, Wong will hold bilateral talks with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and attend an official dinner on 11 October. He will also meet with Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith on 12 October.

Wong and Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan will accompany Wong. During his absence, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong will act as prime minister.
