Another wave of COVID-19 is seen to hit the world anew, World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

Tedros said the failure to share vaccines and treatment is leading to a “two-track pandemic” with countries that have resources opening up; whilst others’ borders remain closed.

He warned that the world is now in the early stage of another wave of infections and deaths and that threat will likely remain as countries continue to grapple through the pandemic.

The pandemic is the “Achilles’ heel” of Southeast Asian countries, Jefferies said, as the new delta variant hit economies in the region anew.

This comes as a rise in COVID-19 cases reported in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Jefferies’ Sean Darby said in a CNBC interview that Indonesia, amongst other ASEAN-member states, has yet to fully understand how to deal with the pandemic as it fails to contain infections.

The Singapore government will be suspending dining-in activities as well as revert to the two-person limit for social gatherings.

These rules, which will take effect on 22 July, are expected to help prevent local COVID-19 cases to further increase.

The Ministry of Health noted these measures will be reviewed in two weeks and will be adjusted accordingly.
