IPOS appoints new chief executive

Current CEO Darren Tang will then be the director general of WIPO.

The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) has appointed Rena Lee as the new chief executive starting 1 August, a press release revealed.

Currently the Hague Diplomatic Office of Singapore’s minister-counsellor, Rena Lee will succeed Darren Tang, who will take on the role as the director general of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on 1 October.

Lee is Singapore’s Ambassador for Oceans and Law of the Sea Issues and the Special Envoy of the Minister for Foreign Affairs. She began her career in the public service with the Ministry of Defence in 1992, and was called to the Singapore Bar in 1993. She later joined the AttorneyGeneral’s Chambers in 2008, and has specialised in the practice of international law.

Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
