MediaCorp to launch commemorative movie
Tentatively called FM, the movie is a presentation for MediaCorp’s 75th anniversary.
MediaCorp Raintree Pictures announced that it is to produce a comedy in the second half of next year, commemorating its 75 years in radio. The movie will feature an ensemble of MediaCorp radio deejays both past and present.
For the first time in Singapore’s movie industry, MediaCorp Raintree Pictures will be calling on Singaporeans to contribute to the eventual storyline, according to a MediaCorp announcement. The producer might consider casting some listeners in cameo roles.
Mr Man Shu Sum, Managing Director of MediaCorp Raintree Pictures, said, "This movie will be one of the most interesting and yet challenging films to make. But we do want to tell the story of this 'grand dame' and how it has evolved through time and is still considered one of the most powerful communications medium in this day and age."
According to Raintree’s Creative Director Kelvin Tong, it will have elements of drama, adventure, comedy and romance. Cross border liaisons will figure too in a nod to history as the radio service started here when both Singapore and Malaysia were British colonies.
