Market Update: Singapore shares close almost flat on Wednesday trade

The Straits Times Index made a modest gain on Wednesday trade, ending at 2,863.01 up by 3.33 points or 0.12%.

The uptick was boosted by the Senate run-off election in the US state of Georgia, and a jump in the price of crude oil.

Among the top gainers were SembCorp Industries with 2.91% or a S$0.05 per share gain, CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust up by 2.27% or S$0.05, and Ascendas Reit which went higher by S$0.06 or 2.02%.

On Wall Street, US stocks mostly ended in higher territory, with the S&P 500 trading higher by 21.28 points or 0.57% to 3,748.14. The Dow Jones Industrial index also ended higher, by 1.44% or 437.80 points at 30,829.40.

The NASDAQ, however, experienced a slight downturn, closing at 12,740.79 with 78.17 points or 0.61 decline.

Meanwhile, London's blue-chip index FTSE 100 extended its winning streak up by 3.47% or 229.61 points at 6,841.86. The FTSE 250 also jumped by 1.24% or 255.79 points at 20,973.16.
