Delegation to visit Chengdu to explore business opportunities

The business mission will be held in conjunction with the 13th Singapore-Sichuan Trade and Investment Committee meeting.

International Enterprise Singapore said 52 representatives from 29 Singapore-based companies will visit Chengdu, Sichuan province from 13 - 15 September 2011 to explore business opportunities. Meanwhile the 13th Singapore-Sichuan Trade and Investment Committee meeting will be on 15 September 2011.

The delegation comprises companies from education, environmental services, financial and legal services, hospitality, logistics, manufacturing, master planning and urban infrastructure. It will be led by Minister of State for Defence and Education Lawrence Wong while Minister Lim Swee Say, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, will join the delegation on the day of the SSTIC meeting.

According to IE Singapore, the SSTIC meeting will review cooperation initiatives in the past year, and discuss new collaboration areas in the coming year. Around five company signings related to hospitality, urban development and logistics will take place during the meeting, said IE Singapore.

Bilateral trade between Singapore and Sichuan amounted to US$530 million from January – June 2011, an increase of 54% over the same period in 2010. In addition, Singapore was Sichuan’s third largest investor, after Hong Kong and the British Virgin Islands as at end 2010, according to Sichuan Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation.
