Gov't to increase partnerships between SMEs, international aerospace firms

The government is backing small and medium-sized enterprises' global performance.

As part of its refreshed roadmap for advanced manufacturing, Enterprise Singapore is set to raise partnerships between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and global aerospace companies.

Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies Heng Swee Keat revealed this at the Industrial Transformation Asia-Pacific 2022 (ITAP) as he launched a revamped Industry Transformation Maps (ITM), which will benefit sectors of advanced manufacturing and trade segment.

"EnterpriseSG will support SMEs in developing new capabilities and technological know-how," read the speech.

One of the examples cited was the Smart Manufacturing Joint Lab (SMJL), which is a collaboration between A*STAR, Rolls-Royce, and Singapore Aero Engine Services Pte Ltd (SAESL).

With this collaboration, about 100 businesses were involved in the co-creation and development of new manufacturing and repair technologies.

"Such partnerships have allowed SMEs to acquire new capabilities and build their track records, with some being qualified as suppliers to global aerospace companies," read the statement.

Enterprise Singapore will also drive start-ups and SMEs in emerging areas such as  Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), smart MRO, and airport technologies.

Likewise, the government is seeking to invest in the talent of aerospace, which is considered an attractive employer in the market.

"The ITM will focus on investing in the talent pipeline, including reskilling and upskilling our workers to seize opportunities," read the statement.
