Daily Briefing: Singapore and Malaysia bourses hit by FTSE disruption; Ryde gets LTA's nod for taxi booking services

And here's how Google's new feature could help Singaporeans in job finding.

Real-time values of Singapore and Malaysia’s market benchmarks recorded temporary disruptions on 2 August due to technical glitches at index provider FTSE Russel.

The issue became apparent when Singapore’s benchmark Straits Times Index was largely unchanged in the first hour of trading, despite DBS Group Holdings Ltd. tumbling as much as 3% after reporting earnings that missed analysts’ estimates. DBS, Southeast Asia’s largest lender, has the biggest weight in the Singapore index at 16%.

“FTSE has confirmed that all real-time values related to their indexes are now updating accurately,” Singapore Exchange Ltd., which operates the city’s stock and derivatives market, said in a statement. “The matter has been resolved.”

Ryde secured approval from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to provide third-party booking services. The firm said in a statement on Thursday (2 August) that the Class 1 certification for the services will allow it to dynamically fix fares for taxis through its app.

“With the expected increase of 7,000 full-time taxi drivers on the platform, Ryde commuters can expect faster matches and reduced average wait times of 4 minutes, down from 5 minutes at present,” said Ryde.

Under RydeX, taxi drivers can accept bookings up to three days in advance with Ryde’s scheduled booking feature. Taxi drivers must pay a 10% service fee for each trip completed and are eligible for all RydeX incentives.

Google unveiled a new search feature built directly into Google Search to provide a comprehensive listing of jobs across the web, which is a first in Southeast Asia.
