Check out General Motors’ new HQ in Singapore

A ‘hot desks’ rule is implemented in the new office.

American multinational corporation General Motors (GM) has finally paved its way to Singapore to create a renewed identity for GM International. The company’s new HQ aims to establish the base for GM International markets and to lead the company’s strategy for the region.

Located right in the heart of the Central Business District (CBD), General Motors International’s office occupies more than 28,000 sq. ft. According to a spokesperson from GM, the new office’s overall design concept is deemed young and boasts of state of the art technology. The building is Greenmark Gold certified and GM International is currently applying for Greenmark Gold rating for its interior as it aims to be energy- and water-efficient, minimise waste, and emphasize indoor environment quality.

The cross-functional teams from GM including Real Estate, Human Resources, Facilities, Security, GMI’s President Office, Design, Marketing and Branding groups were involved in coming up with the new office design ideas. The spokesperson said that the team from Real Estate department appointed a global vendor to manage the construction process to ensure quality and timely completion. Subsequently, it was passed on to the on-site integrated facilities management vendor to manage the running of the office.

GM claims to have adopted an open office concept for their main areas. They also have the rule of “hot desks” rule to encourage a clean desk policy, flexibility, collaboration and staff interaction amongst functions. The new office also features plenty of collaboration areas with lounge and seats available. The Townhall area is intentionally created to be an open space for staff recreation and informal meetings. The open space and informal meeting points aim to foster collaborations, while the whiteboards and clean desks are meant to promote creativity.
