Razer offers free surgical masks through vending machines

A free mask will be available to residents aged 16 and above.

Razer will sponsor surgical masks for residents which will be made available through 20 vending machines, according to an announcement. It guarantees to have a cashless, minimal contact delivery system and will be deployed island-wide by 1 June.

Its fintech arm Razer Fintech will make one free surgical mask available to every adult Singapore resident, aged 16 years and above. An estimated five million masks will be given out as a part of the initiative.

Locations of the vending machines include all malls of Frasers Property Retail, and JustCo coworking centres. Additional vending machines in more locations throughout the country are expected to be rolled out shortly.

Mask allocation will be done via Razer Fintech’s mobile wallet app, Razer Pay, which will issue a QR coupon code upon identity verification. The verified users can then scan the code at the vending machines to collect their free masks. The app can also disclose the locations of the machines.

Razer has partnered with local manufacturer Sunningdale Tech, to develop and deploy a fully automated mask production line in 24 days which can produce up to five million masks a month. The companies expect to expand production to up to 10 million masks a month.

Razer is also joining forces with several sponsors and partners such as Frasers Property, JustCo, and PBA Group who commited $70,849 (US$50,000) to purchase the initial shipments of masks, along with more than 40 other companies.
