"POP! In the City" exhibit features Andy Warhol & other modern masters

Andy Warhol,  Damien Hirst, Roy Lichtenstein and Yayoi Kusama are some of the world-renowned artists gracing the walls of Pop and Contemporary Fine Art this October.

After a stellar end to last year with the hugely successful “the Dots Within” exhibition by Yayoi Kusama in September, Pop and Contemporary Fine Art has decided to mount an even bigger exhibition this year.

Two blockbuster exhibitions are scheduled at ION Orchard Art Gallery for the entire month of October, both of which will fall under the “POP! In the City” Umbrella of exhibitions and events.

“POP! In the City” will be divided into two separate exhibitions, starting with the poptastic “The Olympic Spirit” Exhibition by Burton Morris which will be held from 3rd October to 17th October 2012. This exhibition will feature the paintings commissioned by the International Olympic Museum of Lausanne for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

The collection is comprised of 35 stunning, hand painted, acrylic on canvas works. The Olympic Collection has been shown internationally at public venues and also at the Hickory Museum of Art in the US. This will be the first time that the Olympic collection will be shown in Asia, after having been shown at the world renowned “Chelsea Piers” in New York, USA.

With this exhibition, Morris hopes to instil enthusiasm, not only for his artwork but for the Olympic spirit of healthy living and team spirit in all that see his work.

“The Olympic Spirit” exhibition is part of the gallery's corporate responsibility ethos and therefore will have no admission charge. None of the artwork on display for “The Olympic Spirit” POP! In the City – I will be available for sale.

The second instalment to the month of pop will simply be called: “POP! In the City II”.

In keeping with the gallery's mantra, every artist shown at “Pop! In the City” already has pieces exhibited in permanent collections around the world in both private, corporate and museum collections. The works on exhibit will comprise of print, unique canvas, paper, mixed media and sculpture works. They will be showing artwork from the following artists:

Andy Warhol, Burton Morris, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Roy Lichtenstein and Yayoi Kusama.

To complement the exhibition several art documentaries will be screened. These will include Yayoi Kusama: I Love Me, Art21 - 1: Change, Art2 - 12: Boundaries, Art21 - Episode 3: History, Art21 - 4: Balance. Screening times can be found, closer to the event dates on the gallery's Facebook page. There is no admission charge to the exhibitions or to any of the screenings at the exhibition.

“The Olympic Spirit” will be on exhibit from the 3rd October to 17th October 2012 and “POP! In the City II” will be on exhibit from the 20th October to 30th October 2012
