Get in shape at the Shape Run 2012

It's no longer exclusive to women. Now, even male pacers can join in the 5km and 10km races.

A release by SPH Magazines announced that  Shape Run 2012, organised by SPH Magazines Pte Ltd (SPH Magazines), is now open for registration. Runners can sign up for the race online at shape.com.sg. The event will be held on Sunday, July 15, at Nicoll Highway.

This year, in addition to the 5km and 10km races, a new non-competitive 2.4km category is available. This is aimed at encouraging more women to adopt an active lifestyle. Also novel to Shape Run 2012 are the male pacers in the 5km and 10km races. They will set a constant pace and motivate Shape runners to meet their goal timings.

The early-bird registration fee is $40 for individual categories (2.4km, 5km and 10km) between April 9 and May 6. Runners who sign up with a friend during this period will enjoy a further discounted rate of $70 (buddy registration for two pax). Thereafter, the registration fee will be $55 (individual) and $100 (buddy registration for two pax).

All participants will get a fabulous Runner’s Kit filled with fitness and beauty essentials, a limited-edition Shape Run’12 tee from Reebok, all packed into an exclusive Shape bag. Race finishers will get a race certificate with their personal timing and a finisher’s medal after the run.

Runners who top up $10 or $20 on the race fee will get a six-month or 12-month subscription to Shape, Singapore’s number one magazine for active women.

Before the day of the race, Shape runners, readers and the public are welcome to check out the latest health, beauty and fitness products and services at the exciting Shape Run carnival held from June 29 to July 1 at Marina Square Central Atrium Level 2. Participants are to collect their race packs and number bibs at this carnival.

Li Yuling, Deputy Editor of Shape Magazine, said: “As the pioneer of women-only runs in Singapore, we are proud to introduce a new 2.4km category this year. We hope this will inspire more women to pick up the sport, starting with a shorter, less intimidating distance. Also for the first time, we will have men in the 5km and 10km races, assuming the role of pacers. Our faithful participants can look forward to a fulfilling and exciting time at Shape Run 2012 – eye candy included.”

Diana Lee, General Manager for Fashion & Beauty, SPH Magazines, said: “This year, Shape Run celebrates its 7th anniversary, and the longevity of the event attests to its unwavering popularity among female runners in Singapore. We are constantly improving our race format to provide a positive experience for the participants, engage women of different fitness levels as well as to cater to growing marketing needs. We would like to thank our esteemed sponsors for their support, and look forward to growing this premier fitness platform with our partners.”

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
