Dances of Asia in Visual Art to be launched at Gallery of Gnani Arts

The opening preview of The Asian Prom: Dances of Asia in Visual Art will be on 25 August at 12 noon at The Gallery of Gnani Arts.

This extraordinary art collection features certain captivating dance forms of Asia within elucidating and almost exotic paintings by P. Gnana, Odile Moulin, Raja Segar, Satheesh Kanna, S. Sivabalan and Sivarajah Nadarajan - six meticulously-selected, accomplished artists who hail from France, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and India.

No doubt, dance is indeed the ruling concept of the exhibition. However, how abstract or how photo-realistic or how symbolic the portrayal in each painting is, was indeed the informed yet sentimental decision of the individual artist. To capture the feel of unpredictable movement, the intensity of emotion or the culture-specific principle of a dance form on canvas, is magical indeed.

Furthermore, being treated to impeccable live dance/music performances (during the opening preview of the exhibition) by renowned veterans, Priyalatha Arun and Bhagya Murthy, and the immensely-promising Mita Lestari, is undeniably a rare occurrence, especially when it occurs amidst paintings that depict the kinetic genre of dance in a two-dimensional incarnation.
