There’s an app for that: LTA solicits devs’ help to create transport planning app

It will generate the best routes across multi-modal options.

Singapore’s transport authority is ready to jump on the mobile app bandwagon and at the same time, tap the massive potential of the city-state’s stellar smartphone penetration as it seeks third-party developers to devise a journey planner app.

According to a statement by the LTA, they are looking to build an app that can address the first and last leg of their commute and inform commuters the most efficient route to take.

“It can be a combination of walking comfortably along the sheltered walkway to take the bus, or cycling to the station to hop on the train.” said Chew Men Leong, LTA’s chief executive.

The LTA said they will issue a Call-for-Collaboration to invite established industry players to submit proposals on the development of the multi-modal journey planner mobile app.

“The appointed app developer will partner LTA to jointly create and market this journey planner. The proposed journey planner should also enable commuters to do pre-trip and on-trip planning, set their commuting preferences1, and get information on the duration as well as fares of trips. Most importantly, the route options should be determined using multiple modes of transport, including walking and cycling,” the LTA said.
