ST Engineering’s Smart City Business achieves international project wins

These awards were from Kaoshiung City and Rio De Janeiro.

ST Engineering’s international Smart City Projects—the Smart Mobility and the Smart Utilities and Infrastructure—were presented with international awards.

A $445m contract was given to the group by the Kaohsiung City Mass Rapid Transit Bureau for the Smart Mobility business, done as part of a consortium with Hyundai Rotem.

This business aims to provide turnkey rail services for smart metro solutions, trains, and a power supply system for the rail line. The 13km extension line consists of six elevated stations, with an option existing for two additional stations. 

Meanwhile, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the group’s Smart Utilities and Infrastructure business is a participant in one of the world’s largest single deployments of a city-wide public smart street light control project. This was done in partnership with the Smart Luz consortium in the city’s Public Lighting.

Telematics Wireless T-Light Galaxy Smart Street Lighting solution, along with the AGIL IoT platform, will be used to connect more than 300,00 LED street lights citywide. Work is slated to start in the fourth quarter of 2021 over a period of two years, with a 10-year operation and maintenance portion that can be extended for another eight years. 

The consortium was given the Rio de Janeiro Public Lighting PPP concession for a period of 20 years. The project is also the first in Brazil to be financed through Secured Sustainability Notes guaranteed by the United States International Development Finance Corporation.
