Singtel co-leads consortium for $420m Asia Link Cable System project

The undersea fibre optic cable system spans 6,000km.

Singtel is co-leading with China Telecom Global Limited a consortium for the development of the $420.8m (US$300m) Asia Link Cable System (ALC) project. 

The consortium also includes four other regional carriers, China Telecommunicatons Corporation, Globa Telecom, Inc. and DITO Telecommunity Corporation of the Philippines, and Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd of Brunei.

“Southeast Asia is one of the world’s fastest growing economies, with rising digital demand from consumers and businesses, accelerated by the pandemic. Consumers and Businesses are increasingly relying on services and solutions that require higher-bandwidth and lower-latency connectivity for their work, studies or entertainment,”  Bill Chang, Chief Executive Officer, Group Enterprise and Regional Data Centre Business, Singtel, said. 

“The ALC will bring greater connectivity capacities to transform industries, unlock more opportunities for innovation, further enhancing the digital experiences of Southeast Asian consumers and supporting the growth ambitions of the region.”

The ALC, which spans 6,000 kilometres, is intended to extend connectivity and help boost economic growth in Southeast Asia.
