Singtel boosts 5G rollout through 28Ghz mmWave deployment
The telco added the mmWave to the 3.5Ghz, 2100Mhz frequencies.
Singtel has revealed the deployment of 28Ghz mmWave in addition to 3.5Ghz and 2100Mhz frequencies to bolster the rolling out of 5G in Singapore.
Offering a massive bandwidth, high capacity, and low latency, mmWave is an ideal frequency to “deliver mobile coverage in manufacturing and industrial plants, maritime ports and airports, as well as dense environments such as concert venues and live sporting events,” said Singtel.
The 5G network will utilise mmWave via a mix of the latest cellular technologies, including massive MIMO (multiple input-multiple output), carrier aggregation, and beam-forming solutions, providing Singtel users subscribed to 5G plans with up to 3GBps speeds when mmWave-enable handsets come to Singapore next year.
As a start, the telco has activated mmWave in numerous locations across the country, including Orchard Road, Padang area, and Marina Bay Sands Expo.
“mmWave 5G’s super-fast speeds and low latency will bring about a striking change in the way we communicate and work—on the consumer front, we are tapping the power of 5G to transform applications such as cloud gaming and augmented reality. We are also working with enterprise customers in key industries to develop 5G solutions in areas such as autonomous guided vehicles, mixed reality and location-based services,” Singtel’s group chief technology officer Mark Chong said
The telco will also launch Singtel 5G Experience Zones across Singapore, which will feature exclusive content that users can stream via a WiFi connection powered by mmWave 5G.
