Singapore, US partner to fight scams

They will boost regulatory enforcement and share information related to scams.

Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) signed a memorandum of understanding to reinforce the partnership to stop unsolicited and illegal communications such as scams.

Under the MOU, IMDA said the parties will strengthen cooperation in regulatory enforcement and mutual information exchanges in regulatory frameworks, and technical and policy solutions in both markets.

“International cooperation is key in preserving trust for the digital commons, especially when addressing issues such as online scams which transcend borders. The agreement builds on the strong ties between Singapore and the United States in working towards safeguarding our digital environment,” IMDA Chief Executive Lew Chuen Hong said in a statement.

Preventing scams will allay the threats citizens and businesses encounter from fraudulent activities, they said.

The agreement was signed by Lew and FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel.
