Singapore top execs complain of wasting nearly 3 hours of work a day

BT Global Services today announced research findings based on 1,042 senior executives surveyed across 10 markets including Singapore, Australia, China and India; communication and collaboration is key to management effectiveness and as a result, executives are demanding for more unified communications (UC). The results also show that UC is an integral part of the modern day office environment, becoming almost as ubiquitous as formal meetings.

Across the 10 countries, findings from the BT One research revealed that:

· 56% of executives say slow decision making by managers and colleagues is the biggest problem they face at work

· Organizations are losing $19,500 per employee and $78,000 a year due to executives wasting up to 134 minutes at work every day

· 29% of under 25s log on to work before 8am, compared to 45% of over 35s

· 25% of executives find Twitter and Facebook great ways of getting information, ideas and contacts for their work

· As their economy grows, global business executives in Brazil, China and India are feeling more positive about UC technologies, leading them to adopt UC at a faster rate

Specifically for Singapore, findings from the BT One research found that*:

· Singaporeans estimate that they waste a total of 163 minutes a day due to poor communication, collaboration and information flows, as well as basic administration tasks (compared to an average of 134 minutes) – the highest out of all countries surveyed

· Singaporean executives work the latest of all, but they have long travel times and they value IM/Chat. They are also not as positive about collaboration technologies as executives in India and China

· 60% of Singaporean executives said that slow decision making by manager and colleagues is a major problem (compared to an average of 56%)

· Lack of consultation is seen as a major problem for Singaporean executives – 52% said this was a concern, compared to an average of 41%

· 55% of Singaporeans felt that their IT Department doesn’t seem up to date with latest technology

· 86% believe that a major benefit of using UC is faster decision making within the business – the second highest response behind Spain
