Singapore outperforms SEA peers in digitisation rankings

The Lion City has the most powerful internet infrastructure.

A study revealed that Singapore dominated its digitalisation ranking in Southeast Asia, with the country posting 1,588 points.

Robocash Group said Singapore is leading due to its investment attractiveness in tech firms. It also has an average mobile internet speed of 72.18 Mbps, and broadband Internet speed is 214.23 Mbps. What makes Singapore’s digital infrastructure competitive is its population’s use of debit (93.5%) and credit cards (41.7%).

“The government of Singapore adheres to three main pillars of digitalization: digital society, digital economy, and digital state. Over the past four years, it has allocated $10 billion as a part of government digitalization projects and plans to spend approximately the same amount in the
coming years,” read the study.

Next is Malaysia with 1,495 points, followed by Indonesia with 1,419 points. Analysts said the degree of digitalisation was assessed based on 22 parameters, using the method of data normalisation. 

Singapore posted the highest degree of digitalisation in 2022 (1,588 points), whilst Vietnam had the lowest (1,258 points). The Philippines and Thailand had approximately the same level, and Malaysia occupied the second place. Indonesia is in the middle of the ranking.
