National AI Strategy 2.0 is not “a one-size-fits-all approach”: MCI
The Ministry assured that the regulations will remain fit-for-purpose for every AI concern.
With concerns surrounding copyright issues for Singaporeans and the strengthening of regulations and ethical frameworks of artificial intelligence (AI), the Government has emphasised that with the rapid developments of the technology, the National AI Strategy 2.0 is not “a one-size-fits-all approach” for regulation.
Whilst the strategy retains Singapore’s practical and risk-based approach to the administration of AI, from model training to copyright for AI-generated content, risks of the technology remain speculative.
"We have been reviewing our regulations and governance frameworks to ensure that they remain fit-for-purpose, and will continue to do so as we implement our refreshed AI Strategy," Josephine Teo, Minister for Communications and Information, said. However, adjustments will continue upon the implementation of the refreshed AI Strategy.
The National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (NAIS) 2.0 strategy is one of the many regulations of AI in Singapore, followed by the Model AI Governance Framework in 2019 and the AI Verify toolkit in 2022. The Government has also engaged with international partners on AI governance, like the Global Partnership on AI.
One of the advantages of the new strategy is the AI computing power from data centres (DCs). The next step is to enhance energy efficiency with the DCs and install efficient cooling solutions for their equipment.
Other energy-enhancing measures include the investment in DC operators to reduce greenhouse gas, the development of sustainability standards, and the review of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA).
