Singapore’s state-run Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has said that it would add $30m (US$22m) more to its 5G Innovation grant announced last year.

The grant aims to fuel commercial adoption of 5G networks that will, in turn, help local firms leverage on the fifth-generation cellular network that promises data transfer 10x faster than 4G.

The fund will also support solution providers and technology developers commercialising 5G solutions in making it accessible to more companies.

To apply for the grant, applicants need to indicate a significant value and impact that their product will provide to the enterprises and industry.

They will also need to be a Singaporean registered company and share a report of their operationalisation plan, commercialisation plan, and business model.

The balance between Singapore's urban development and preservation of its natural environment is again catching the public's attention with question marks hanging over the fate of two forested areas.

Dover Forest, a 33 ha site within Ulu Pandan that has been zoned for residential development, is the subject of a 2017 environmental baseline study conducted by the Housing and Development Board (HDB).

Ulu Pandan is one of several areas where HDB plans to offer 17,000 build-to-order flats in 2021.

The HDB environmental study found that Dover Forest is home to at least 158 species of animals—including critically endangered ones—and 120 plant species. The HDB has sought public feedback on the forested area on its website.

Former prime minister Goh Chok Tong said on 22 January that the second volume of his authorised biography will reach bookshelves in late April or early May.

The release of the book, titled Standing Tall: The Goh Chok Tong Years, is planned to mark his 80th birthday, Goh said in a Facebook post.

"Received this galley copy of Standing Tall from publisher. Cover is being designed and photos selected. Going through text one more time to tie up loose ends," said Mr Goh.

"PM (Lee Hsien Loong) and a friend who have read the draft used the same adjective: Enjoyable.

"Hope you will enjoy the book when it is out," he added.
