IMDA unveils plans to boost ICT adoption
The authority aims to set up a Digital Services Laboratory.
The Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) launched a series of initiatives in a bid to support the infocomm media (ICM) sector capture opportunities in the digitally developing services ecosystem, an announcement revealed.
Termed ‘Services 4.0’, the initiatives fall under IMDA’s framework for action to develop Singapore’s digital economy. It was developed through the Services and Digital Economy Technology roadmap (SDETRM) as a potential engine of growth.
This involves the planned rollout of GoCloud by 2019 which aims to help information and communication technology (ICT) small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) migrate to a Cloud Native Architecture. GoCloud will equip ICT SMEs with digital capabilities in Cloud Native, Microservices and DevOps, transforming the way they develop, deploy and deliver applications.
“This will enable SMEs to unlock benefits of cloud computing and rapid software delivery, create services that are more flexible, scalable and adaptable, and significantly reduce their time to market,” IMDA said in a statement.
Other key initiatives by the IMDA include the planned service expansion ofthe PIXEL facility at one-north in January 2019. It has identified four new capabilities including design thinking, user interface/user experience, immersive experiences and digital storytelling which will made available through workshops and masterclasses.
PIXEL will also provide mentors and coaches for innovation projects to focus on developing customer-centric digital experiences to provide the full suite of incubation, production and prototyping facilities. An Immersive Experiences lab and User Testing lab will also be outfitted at the facility.
In addition, a digital services laboratory (DSL) has been set up to bring together research communities, ICM players and end-users to co-architect and engineer solutions across multiple technology domains. DSL will wor with industry partners to co-develop digital engineering solutions from early stage to deployment.
