Government forecasts $1.1bln public sector infocomm tenders

Overall outlook for the infocomm industry remains positive, according to the IDA, amidst increased spending in IT and demand for infocomm services.

RADM(NS) Ronnie Tay, Chief Executive of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, noted that the government will continue to invest in infocomm to drive productivity and innovation within the public sector.

In financial year 2010, the Government awarded 647 infocomm contracts worth more than $1.12 billion. This figure excludes the awarded amount of $850 million for the Schools Standard ICT Operating Environment project.

IDA Chief Executive said, "Besides the Government's investment in infocomm to benefit citizens and businesses, we will also spur infocomm innovation and productivity by nurturing a thriving and vibrant infocomm industry. Toward that end, we will continue to facilitate adoption of infocomm across sectors, as well as continued engagement and collaboration between the public and private sectors.”

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
