Equinix launches fifth data centre in Singapore

SG5 will have a capacity of 1,300 cabinets in its first phase.

Digital infrastructure company Equinix has announced the launch of SG5, its fifth International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre in Singapore, with a US$114m initial investment in its first phase to provide cloud proximity to enterprises for digital transformation and business resiliency.

Set to open in H1 2021, SG5 will have a capacity of 1,300 cabinets and approximately 18,400 sq. ft. of colocation space in the first phase. Cabinet capacity and colocation space is expected to increase upon full buildout.

The data centre will be directly connected to the four existing IBX data centers in Singapore via low-latency dark fiber links. It will also enable customers to securely interconnect with more than 705 companies in the market.

"As the global economy and the Asia-Pacific region continue to grow, we see a strong demand for digital infrastructure to support business growth…Traditional infrastructure is struggling to keep up with this digital demand, leading enterprises to explore hybrid and multi cloud options to further their transformation,” Equinix Asia Pacific president Jeremy Deutsch said.
