Folr introduces a real-time geo-location tracking mobile app that also details where they were.

There's no doubt that the world is becoming more and more digitized every single day. While personal interactions is neglected by many, mobile applications are emerging to bring and make people closer.

In a turbulent and ever-changing world, there are plenty of reasons to worry about the location and safety of those you care about most. Built for your loved ones, family members, best friends or any significant people in your life, is a geo-location tracking mobile app called Folr, to give real-time information on their whereabouts. This app aims to be an important tool during times of need or distress.

According to Natalie Ip, business development lead and co-founder, existing tracking apps are mostly about tracking locations. Folr can match that as users can immediately see the locations of those he/she cares about with an accuracy of up to 5m.

“Folr sets itself apart by offering a clear picture of not just where the loved ones are, but also where they were. Users can review the detailed history of the followed throughout the day and up to the whole year. Another distinctive offering by Folr is ensuring privacy for users and those they follow. It also allows the followed to set the days-of-week and the hours-of-day that their device can be tracked. They can also, at any point, deactivate the tracking,” Natalie explained.

Folr is said to be targeted at concerned users who would want to know where their children are after school, where their spouse goes during a business trip or where their friends were out and about. Folr claims that it also has many practical uses for institutional and social purposes: School administrators can easily handle school's attendance taking, discipline and on-campus liability. Also, on a night out, party revellers will be able to see which of their friends are also unwinding nearby.

How it works

This mobile app only takes 3 steps to install on any mobile device (smartphone or tablet) to unobtrusively update users on the locations of the most important people in their lives.

First, download Folr from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store for free. Second, users may select whom they wish to follow from their phones' contacts. And lastly, Folr will send that person a request. When they accept, they will be prompted to download Folr to be a user as well.

While the app is free to download, the "History" function will be $29.99 USD per year (less than $2.50 USD per month), to be reassured on the path of the followed.

The app founders

Steven Ellis, 39, is the CEO and co-founder of Folr. Steven is a software developer and entrepreneur, with over 14 years experience in software development and design. Folr.com is Steven's fourth entrepreneurial endeavour, and he believes fervently in the possibilities that web and mobile offer in disrupting existing industries, and in creating new ones.

Natalie Ip, 27, is the business development lead and also a co-founder of Folr. She started off in the digital advertising industry in New Zealand and Indonesia where she forged invaluable connections in Southeast Asia which led her to start a logistics startup in Singapore.

In the mid of this year, she saw the global potential and the scalability of Folr and has since joined Folr as a co-founder to push the marketing and business development effort so to help make family safety easy for all, anywhere in the world.
