Check out Dell’s first IoT lab in Asia Pacific and Japan set up in Singapore

It’s connected with two other labs in US and Ireland.

Dell has just launched last month its first Internet of Things (IoT)) lab in the Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) region. Located in Singapore, the lab was put up in collaboration with Intel, and is Dell’s third IoT lab globally. It is based within the Dell Solution Center in the Dell Singapore office. The facility features Dell and Intel IoT solutions with end-to-end platform facilities allowing customers to test the products and consult with Dell technical experts.

The launch of this new lab is part of Dell’s commitment to help customers realize the potential of IoT to enable future-ready enterprises and societies.

Apart from this being the first such facility that Dell has launched in the APJ region, Glen Burrows, Area Vice President explained that its IoT lab in Singapore is connected to its other two labs in Santa Clara, U.S. and Limerick, Ireland via its global network. “Customers who are looking to develop their proof-of-concepts (POCs) within the lab will be able to gain insights on best practices from our other two labs as we continue to help customers and partners within the IoT ecosystem innovate with us,” he said.

Currently, the lab in Singapore showcases IoT solutions from Dell OEM customers, Innodep, a video surveillance solutions provider in Korea and Silverline, a smart home sensor technology provider in Singapore.

According to Glen, the biggest challenge faced by the Dell OEM team, the business unit that led this project, was deciding on the location of their first IoT lab in APJ. “Asia Pacific is a vast and diverse region and we see strong interest in IoT across all major markets. With our IoT customers located across the region, we needed to ensure that the facility is located somewhere that is easily accessible for our customers and partners,” he said.

The team’s final decision on the location of our first lab was made keeping in mind the need for the IoT lab to serve as a hub for the region. With Singapore’s strong infrastructure, its status as a regional hub for businesses in Asia-Pacific and strong government initiatives such as Smart Nation, it served the criteria which Dell OEM sets out for the location of the lab. “The location of the Dell Solution Center in Singapore served as another plus point with easy access to edge-to-datacenter solutions,” he added.

The IoT Lab project in Singapore was driven by its APJ IoT technical experts, who form part of the Dell OEM organization, the business unit driving the IoT initiative within the company. Collaborating with both the business development and marketing leads within the Dell OEM organization, the team leveraged insights and inputs of all stakeholders to ensure that the lab is designed to meet customers’ needs. The project also involved coordination with external stakeholders, such as its partner, Intel, whose solutions are also showcased within the lab.
