What roles will be in demand in the transportation and logistics sector?

New technologies in the industry will require firms to create new high-value jobs.

Firms in the transportation and logistics sector will likely create new roles next year as the industry moves to streamline its process through new technologies, said Randstad in its annual salary report.

In the report, Randstad said the industry will need sustainability consultants, environment, health, and safety (EHS) specialists, infrastructure engineers, sustainable design specialists, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) managers, to complement its large-scale strategies, including going net-zero.

Other roles which Randstad believe will emerge for the year are the following: 

• Sustainability analyst - analyses and predicts an organisation’s current and future environmental impacts
• Chief sustainability officer - proposes and implements strategies to address and manage the organisation’s various environmental impacts, including processes and use of raw materials
• Energy efficiency and conservation officer - proposes and implements programmes that promote the conservation of energy within the organisation
• Energy manager - plans, regulates and monitors energy use within the organisation
• Software engineer - leads the design and development of proprietary and integrated software solutions 
• Cloud engineer - builds and maintains cloud infrastructure 
• Data engineer - generates, enriches, and maintains data sources and pipelines, and builds AI and ML models based on extracted data 
• IT project manager - structures and supervises project development, including task distribution and compliance with deadlines
