Singapore job openings slip 8.9%

There are 91 job vacancies for every 100 applicants.

According to Ministry of Manpower's Labor Report, amid the subdued global economic outlook, the number of job vacancies declined over the year by 15% to 47,300 in June 2012. After adjusting for seasonality, job openings fell over the quarter by 8.9% to 45,600.

Here's more fro MoM:

The seasonally adjusted ratio of job vacancy to unemployed person declined for a second consecutive quarter, as job vacancies fell faster than unemployment in June 2012. For every 100 job seekers, there were now 91 job openings, down from 105 in March 2012 and 120 in December 2011.

This was the second consecutive quarter of decline after hitting the high of 55,400 in December 2011. Correspondingly, the seasonally adjusted job vacancy rate, which measures vacancies relative to total manpower demand, fell to 2.3% in June 2012 from 2.5% in March 2012 and 2.9% in December 2011.

Services contributed three in four (75% or 35,400) of the vacancies in June 2012, with the bulk from community, social & personal services (10,800 or 23% of all vacancies). This was followed by wholesale & retail trade (5,400 or 11%), transportation & storage (3,600 or 7.6%), accommodation & food services (3,400 or 7.2%) and administrative & support services (3,400 or 7.1%).

Manufacturing and construction contributed another 7,700 (16%) and 3,400 (7.1%) job openings respectively. Positions for PMETs constituted 42% or 20,000 of the vacancies. This was followed by production & transport operators, cleaners & labourers (14,000 or 30%) and clerical, sales & services workers (13,300 or 28%).

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

You're the reader we write for. You're also the person our partners want to reach.

If that sentence describes you — a founder, a C-suite, someone whose attention companies pay good money for — then you already understand why SBR works. We've spent twenty years earning the trust of readers exactly like you. Which is exactly what makes this an interesting place for your company to show up, too.

The ways it can show up are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The right fit depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If your company has something this audience should know about, we'd like to hear what you're working on.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.

None of these stories are mine. They were sent to me by readers of Atomic Habits. My hope is that these examples will illustrate how real people are putting the book into practice. They will show you what people are actually doing to build good habits and break bad ones. And hopefully, they will spark some ideas for how you can do the same.
