Singapore amongst the most expensive countries for international education

Sixth grade tuition fees cost about $38,500 per annum.

It seems like expat families living in Singapore would have to bear rising education costs for their children, as ExpatFinder International School Fee Survey 2016 revealed.

The survey revealed that on average, sixth grade tuition fees cost about $38,500 or US$27,100 per annum in Singapore. Globally, the city-state ranked seventh in the countries with the most expensive education list, while it ranked third amongst Asian countries. The three most expensive schools in the city-state are The Australian International School, Stamford American International School, and Overseas Family School. 

China topped the said list, followed by Switzerland, Belgium, UK, Hong Kong, and United States.

ExpatFinder.com CEO Sébastien Deschamps said there is still a trend of expat families looking for growth opportunities offshore given challenges in the domestic environment.

"However, according to our survey findings, international school fees are steadily rising, particularly in markets that are popular destinations with expats,” he noted.

Helene Denaiffe, a French expat residing in Singapore, was cited in the survey saying the rising cost of education has changed the way her family budget for their lifestyle.

"We now limit ourselves on spending much more than we did in our home country. Paying for education and extracurricular activities now takes up the largest part of our monthly budget,” she said.
