SIM joins SGUnited Skills advanced manufacturing programme

Residents who lost their jobs are the target participants of the programme.

The Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) has come aboard the SGUnited Skills programme as one of the appointed training providers to oversee training programmes for the manufacturing sector, an announcement said.

The programme targets Singapore citizens and Singapore permanent residents who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic as well as mid‐career switchers.

Through the six‐month full‐time SGUnited Skills programme, SIM aims to train participants on in‐demand skill sets and place them in various roles in the advanced manufacturing sector.

As part of the training, programme participants also undergo career preparation courses to help them with their job hunting process.

There is an industry attachment component with a partner company where programme participants can get to apply their newly acquired skills. Those who perform well stand a higher chance of being employed by the company. Participants can also make use of the opportunity to assess if a job in this sector is a good fit for them.

Programme participants who have not found a job at the end of the programme can continue to receive career advisory and employment assistance from SIM to increase their chances of finding a job that will utilise their newly acquired skills.

Industry partners under this programme also stand to benefit as they have direct access to a talent pool with industry‐relevant skills, and are able to assess a candidate under a structured environment before considering permanent placement for the participant.

Applicants can apply for one of the following eight programme tracks categorised under Management and Executive. Each track is designed to equip programme participants with the professional skills and knowledge to fulfil certain job functions in the advanced manufacturing sector.
