Republic Polytechnic, SLA to launch new carbon management programme

The programme will start in October.

Republic Polytechnic (RP) partnered with the Singapore Logistics Association (SLA) to launch the new GO Carbon Management Programme (goCMP) that aims to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) owned to understanding carbon emissions in their operations and guide them in achieving net-zero emissions.

In a joint statement, RP and SLA said SMEs in the logistics sector will be the first to undergo the five-day project-based programme which will include two days of on-site facilitation with site visits, scoping, verification and carbon emissions calculations.

The programme will also include a three-day workshop on essential carbon measurement techniques and concepts. This will also cover topics such as carbon accounting methodologies, measurement metrics, and strategies for carbon reduction.

“In 2020, the transportation sector generated almost one-fifth of Singapore’s carbon emissions. The partnership with the Singapore Logistics Association will allow us to jointly assist local logistics SMEs in developing practical and cost-effective initiatives,” Dennis Quek, Director of the Centre of Innovation for Supply Chain Management, Republic Polytechnic.

“Plans to customise this course for SMEs in the agritech, banks and hotel industry are also in the pipeline as we all have a part to play in helping Singapore reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050,” Quek added.

GoCMP will also form part of the pre-approved programmes list that are required under Workforce Singapore’s Career Conversion Programme for Sustainability Professionals.
