Only 9% of Singaporeans feel recognised at work

According to a recent survey, managers tend to overstate the satisfaction of their employees

A mere 9% of Singaporean employees feel recognised, whilst only 12% strongly agree that they feel engaged in their overall work experience.

This is according to the inaugural Asia Pacific "Engagement and Recognition @ Work" Report by Achievers.

It noted that there is a disconnect between how managers perceive their employees’ levels of engagement and recognition, adding that managers tend to overstate how satisfied they think their employees are.

“The report has revealed that managers in Singapore are not getting the full picture when it comes to workplace engagement and recognition. Such findings are not uncommon as leaders want to believe that they are doing a good job, but if they are lacking actual data to understand and identify these issues effectively, it could potentially lead to broader business implications, such as impacted productivity and retention," said Chief Workforce Scientist for Achievers Natalie Baumgartner.

This is why we urge companies to work closely with their stakeholders and plug these gaps quickly,” she added.

The study also found a discrepancy between the level of engagement experienced by employees and management in work from home set-ups, with only 12% of employees saying they felt more engaged whilst 22% of managers responded the same.

The survey was conducted in April 2021, with a respondent pool of 756 full-time managers and employees across different sectors in Singapore.
