One in two digital media workers want 'sense of ownership' in workplace
They see it as part of a culture of success.
Infocomm and digital media professionals are looking for a "culture of success" in their workplace, a Singapore Computer Society (SCS) survey revealed. It polled 343 Infocomm and Digital Media professionals and students.
According to the survey, a workplace’s "culture of success” is defined by five traits: a sense of ownership, open communication, ability to raise ideas, training for leaders, and a collegial environment.
Half of respondents are empowered to have a sense of ownership. SCS said workers want an environment where employees can exercise their own discretion and creativity.
Meanwhile, 53% want open communication which encourages transparency and collaboration; 65% want to raise their new ideas to open-minded management.
"Employees want leaders who will listen to their ideas and stay open to new suggestions," SCS said.
About half, or 49%, want leadership training for those who are willing to mentor others.
SCS said, "Inspiring leaders are often hardy individuals who will guide employees through tough times."
Meanwhile, 59% also want a collegial environment, which is grounded in kinship, to help them cope in stressful situations.
The survey also found out that more female respondents prefer having a stake in decision making over having a sense of ownership.
During a job hunt, 33% look for opportunity for advancement, whilst 31% seek a working environment, and 36% want to know the scope of their job.
According to SCS, there are also three human resources (HR) practices that matter in the workplace.
Around 83% said they look for work-life balance, whilst 62% want a friendly work environment. About half or 56% said they need good compensation and benefits.
SCS also observed females value recognition over having good compensation and benefits.
