NUS retains Asia’s best university status in largest-ever regional ranking

NTU also barged into the third spot.

Singapore’s top universities has once again bested its Asian counterparts in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking, the largest-ever regional ranking comparing the region’s best universities.

According to a press release by QS, the National University of Singapore (NUS) retained its status as Asia’s best university following its 12th-place performance in last September’s QS World University Rankings.

NUS rival Nanyang Technological University also rose by one place to take the regional bronze medal, while Singapore Management University booked its first appearance in the rankings in 60th place.

“The QS University Rankings: Asia has expanded this year to include the region’s 350 best universities – an expansion of 50 on the previous year. They have also included methodological enhancements this year, introducing Staff with PhD in order to add another dimension to the analyses of teaching quality their rankings provide,” the press release noted.

The press release added that NUS achieved the benchmark score of 100.0 in four of QS’s ten metrics, and achieves a weighted score of above 97.0 in nine of the ten.

NTU also achieved perfect weighted scores for four metrics: employer reputation, citations per paper, international faculty, and proportion of outbound exchange students.
