NUS, NTU amongst top 15 in QS world ranking

The two universities also ranked the highest in Asia.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) placed 11th out of 1,000 universities across the globe in 2021, the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings reported.

Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU) is also included in the top 15, it ranked 13th.

NUS maintained its position at the 11th spot with an overall score of 91.5, a slight decrease from last year’s 91.8 score. NTU, meanwhile, slipped to 89.9 from 91.8 in 2020, during which it tied with NUS.

Also in the list is Singapore Management University, which landed within the 511-520 range.

On rankings based of broad subjects, NUS managed to stay within the top 15 in engineering and technology (91.9), social sciences and management (88.9), natural sciences (90), and arts and humanities (87.7); except in life sciences and medicine where it ranked 27th with a score of 84.7.

NTU, meanwhile, performed better than NUS in engineering as it scored 93.2, fourth in the list. The university also scored high in natural sciences with 89.5 (14th), and social sciences with 85.4 (17th).

Moreover, NTU scored 80.8 (41st) in arts and humanities, and 74 in life sciences.

The universities placed first and second among 348 universities in Asia that made it in this year’s list. Joining NUS and NTU in the top five are Tsinghua University in China, The University of Hong Kong and Peking University in China.

The QS World University Rankings this year included 1,000 universities across 80 different locations.

The Massachusetts Institute for Technology in the United States topped the list for the ninth year in a row. It is followed by Stanford University and Harvard University.
