NTU edges top HK and South Korea universities to clinch best university under 50 ranking

Nanyang Technological University is only 24 years old.

Singapore’s NTU has not taken its best young university award last year lightly, as it performed more stellarly this year. It not only repeated as the world’s best university under 50 years old, it also enjoyed a huge leap in its World University Ranking Position.

According to a statement by ranking firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), NTU did not enjoy a cakewalk to the top, as it overcame a huge challenge from second-best Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), which was founded the same year as NTU.

Occupying the third spot of the rankings is Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), which was founded in 1971.

“Both results provide evidence for Nanyang’s increasing status as one of the world’s elite educational establishments,” QS said.

Meanwhile, Asian universities dominated the top spots, clinching six of the top ten.

“It’s not just Asia’s universities that are making an increasingly strong name for themselves through high-quality research, continued internationalization, and higher standing among academics and employers alike. Australia is the most-featured country in the rankings this year, with eight placed ‘top 50 under 50’ universities,” QS added.
