Nine in 10 restaurants and hotels find difficulty in hiring talent

Nearly 100% of employers in restaurants and hotels have hiring difficulty.

A vast majority, or 97%, of employers in restaurants and hotels will have difficulty filling in the needed talent in 2022 amidst the sign of market recovery, a survey from employment agency firm, Manpower Group, said.

This was followed by other services with 89%, construction with 88%, wholesale and retail trade with 87%, education with 85%, manufacturing with 81%, and banking and finance with 80%.

Survey results showed that more than eight in 10 employers report difficulty in filling roles, which is up by 20% from 2021.

In sought-after roles for industries, IT and data is the top in-demand job, followed by operations and logistics, sales and marketing, manufacturing and production, and customer-facing and front office.

Manpower Group’s research also found that Singapore's net employment outlook or hiring intentions posted an all-time high of +40%, compared to the previous record-high level of +31% in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Manpower Group Singapore Manager Linda Teo attributed the increase in hiring intent due to the transition to an endemic, which resulted in pent-up demand for manpower, employee attrition and shortage of workers with the right skillsets.

The survey polled over 520 employers in Singapore about their hiring intentions for July to September 2022 period.
