National Day Rally: Gov’t to update GEP, launch new funding scheme for post-secondary education

Students will receive a $10,000 top-up if they obtain a diploma.

Every primary school will have its own programmes to stretch its students in their areas of strength and interest without the students having to switch schools under the updated Gifted Education Programme.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said in his National Day Rally speech that this will equip the schools to identify their own high-ability learners – so this will benefit more students.”

The Gifted Education Programme was launched 40 years ago in 1984 to nurture higher-ability students.

To further improve the education system,  the government has changed the PSLE scoring system and removed streaming in secondary schools.

The government also launched the ITE Progression reward which will provide students taking up diploma programmes with a $5,000 top-up in their Post-Secondary Education Account and a further $10,000 top-up in their CPF account once the student graduates.

In addition, the government will provide more resources and funding to support both students with disadvantaged backgrounds and those with higher abilities.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
