More than half of workers won’t compromise their values for a job: study

Singapore is the top country for workers who will not compromise their values.

As the majority of workers in Singapore believed that values are important for a company, 55% of them also said they will not compromise their values for a job, a May 2022 Milieu Insight study findings showed.

The study indicated that Singaporeans have the highest percentage of workers who said they are not willing to sacrifice their values for their company. This was followed by Thailand with 51%, the Philippines with 49%, and Malaysia with 40%.

However, 40% of workers said they are willing to forego their values as long as they will not do illegal acts whilst 6% of workers said it does not matter to them if they need to compromise their values.

With more than 90% of Singaporeans saying the values of their employer are important to them, more than a third are willing to work in a firm where they are mandated to go against their values.

Conversely, almost one in 10 said they are fine if their employer will lie or manipulate the truth as long as it is not illegal.

Meanwhile, 57% said their employers are doing an “average job" in upholding values.

The May 2022 Milieu Insight survey polled 1,000 employed respondents each in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
