Imperial College London opens first research centre in Singapore

The centre aims to establish Singapore as a global leader in health cybersecurity and AI for healthcare.

The Imperial College London has launched its first overseas research and innovation centre in Singapore to bolster collaboration between the UK and Singapore. 

The centre will work with university, industry, government, and third-sector partners in Singapore.

The first research programme hosted by the new centre is a collaboration with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) worth $20m.

The programme is called IN-CYPHER and is designed to establish Singapore as a global leader in health cybersecurity and AI for healthcare to bolster research and funding in said areas.

The centre and university partners will provide cutting-edge laboratories to Imperial staff and PhD students which will be used to research major global challenges such as pandemic preparedness, climate, net zero transitions, and AI.

The centre will also enable Imperial to expand activity in the region such as entrepreneurship programmes, startup accelerators, student placements, and new technology programmes.

The research centre will be based at the National Research Foundation Singapore (NRF) Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE).
